Mooroobah means beautiful in the language of the traditional owners.
The seasonal Shepherds Hut creek runs through the property with undulating hills, shady gum trees and sheltered sunny valleys, providing the perfect home for our flock to live and grow.
Green and growing grass, free of weeds and pests is the backbone to perfect lambs. Continual pasture maintenance and improvement ensures we grow the best possible natural feed for Lauriston Lambs.
Poll Dorset Rams sire our lambs. Our inaugural team of Roger, Richard and Stephen spent five weeks with the ladies in April/May and emerged tired, happy and content. We'll know in September just how successful they were.
The Poll Dorset was adapted in Australia for Australian conditions. They have excellent growth rates and are shaped well with ideal fat coverage for high lean meat yield. When put across the Border Leicester/Merino ewe they produce ideal lambs.
Our Ladies are special to us, they are Border Leicester/Merino first-cross ewes. Known as the mother of the Australian lamb industry, they produce high quality grass fed lambs.
While Merinos themselves are a suitable meat sheep, when crossed with Border Leicester they produce the large, lean lambs.
They produce good quantities of wool and also have a superior skin with the elimination of wrinkles and ribbing, an advantage when passed onto ‘second cross’ lambs.
All creatures great and small live with us at Mooroobah.
The entire property is under the watchful eye of Gary the French Bulldog who is in charge of security.
The two horses, 30 year old grey gelding Bobby, and one-eyed mare Dakota, keep the rams company when they aren't in with the ladies.
Two alpacas, Eric and Rochester, are the flock guards living with the ewes, keeping them safe from foxes.
Numerous native animals and birds also live on Mooroobah. We love them all.
Mooroobah has a fully netted orchard and veggie garden with a dozen fruit trees and nine vegetable beds. During Summer we are laden with ripening stone fruit, apples, pears and peaches.
We also produce our own olive oil from our olive grove. The oil is delicious addition to our lamb, a salad or simply drizzled on fresh bread.
There is nothing better than growing your own fresh fruit and veggies, harvesting and creating something delicious.
Apart from raising your own lamb of course!
The garden at Mooroobah is a delightful place to work, relax and enjoy the seasons.
The delight of walking barefoot on green summer lawns, the colorful burst of Autumn, the crunchy crisp frosts of winter, and the fresh blooms of spring, every season has it's beauty...
